One Man Awake
One Man Awake - by Helen Kromer
One man awake
Can waken another;
The second can waken
His next door brother.
The three awake
Can rouse a town,
By turning the whole
Place upside down.
The many awake
Can make such a fuss,
That it finally wakens
The rest of us!
One man up,
With dawn in his eyes,
Multiplies.
One man awake awakens another,
The second awakens his next door neighbor,
And three awake can rouse the town,
and turn the whole place upside down.
And many awake can raise such a fuss,
That it finally awakens the rest of us.
One man up with dawn in his eyes - multiplies.
The version attributed to Helen Kromer is presented according to how it appeared in the printed script of the play called, For Heaven's Sake! - handled by Samuel French and printed by Baker's Plays.
The alternate presentation of this inspiring poem has also become popular.
